What Healing Is (And What It Isn't)

7/4/2023

Healing isn’t a cacao, breathwork or sound journey workshop. These things are great for relaxation, for embodiment practice, and for discharging stress and tension. They promote wellness, but healing is a different process.

Healing is a process of becoming more aware of our wounds, and the way they express through cognitive, emotional, behavioural and physical patterns. It is an ability to recognise the ways in which our conditioning distorts the truth of who we really are, and a determination to re-discover and express that truth. This is the healing path. It is a reclamation of one’s life, identity and consciousness from the effects of woundedness, unhelpful conditioning, and self-limiting stories. It is a process of awakening to who we are, how we function, what we need, & what we want. It is a trial & error process of learning what best helps us to regulate on our own and with others.

Nervous system regulation is at the root of the healing process as it is the root system of our being. Bringing greater regulation to our nervous system is a way of life, not something to be fixed within a short course of therapy, wellness retreat or workshop. Sunshine, healthy food, plenty of water, exercise/movement, fresh air, and positive social connection - these are great conditions to help the nervous system. But of course it’s more than that. It’s about how we (and our nervous systems) process stress on a day to day basis. The capacity to be with discomfort, knowing when and how to defuse excess energy, while staying connected and compassionate with ourselves is just as important.

Creating and nurturing a sense of inner safety, freedom, and spaciousness through things like mindfulness, creativity, connection & exercising personal agency nourishes our nervous system, and through consistent experience of this, the capacity of your nervous system will expand.

Healing is an inside job for you to take full ownership of. It is a way of life and a journey only you can take back to wholeness and authenticity
